Crown in Exile
At first glance, my artwork portrays a young girl in a princess costume in a motel room. However, the girl is in fact, displaced. In the background, the dark and foreshadowing setting of the motel hints at a sense of displacement and insecurity, whereas the young girl's costume represents her blossoming hopes and dreams. The luggage bag symbolizes her displacement while the broken television shows her anxieties navigating a world overwhelmed by conflict and discourse. On the other hand, the plane alongside the sunrise instills in viewers a sense of hope that despite her adversities, she has the potential to overcome them. Her luggage bag is no longer a representation of her lack of stability and home, it represents her dreams of traveling and exploring the world. The young girl wearing a crown represents her place of significance in a world, even in the midst of chaos.
